L Arginine And Erectile Dysfunction
L Arginine And Erectile Dysfunction
In this article, I will discuss the Amino acid L Arginine and erectile dysfunction, what is L Arginine and can it really help with erectile dysfunction, if it can help we will discuss how it helps with erectile dysfunction and find out what the recommended dose is for best effect.
An Introduction To L Arginine
L Arginine is a naturally occurring Amino acid that assists in making protein which also turns into a harmless gaseous substance in the body known as Nitric Oxide (or NO for short). It is considered as “Almost an essential amino acid” or “borderline essential amino acid” due to the health benefits that come from it.
It is noted by scientists to be beneficial in the fight against ageing (anti-aging) and beneficial for your kidneys.
L Arginine is also one of the three amino acids in the urea cycle alongside L Citrulline and an L Ornithine
The Science
The conversion of L Arginine into Nitric Oxide happens thanks to a group of enzymes known as Nitric Oxide Synthase or NOS for short.
Those lovely NOS (Nitric Oxide Synthase) enzymes happen to be present in the endothelium, which is the smooth lining inside our veins and arteries that allow them to dilate. The endothelium is present in many of our internal organs.
When the Nitric Oxide Synthase enzymes are released and convert L Arginine into Nitric Oxide the vein and arteries open and dilate allowing for greater blood flow (including down there!). This process is referred to as Endothelium Nitric Oxide Synthase, eNOS for short.
The resulting factor is indeed improved erection quality for men and, for the ladies with increased blood flow “down there” to her “hoo-ha” an enhanced ability to orgasm occurs.
So yes, absolutely L Arginine can be referred to as a sex life enhancing supplement for both men and women.
L Arginine And Erectile Dysfunction
L Arginine is an effective supplement for treating erectile dysfunction due to the release of nitric oxide in the endothelium (eNOS) process, causing improved circulation.
As I have stated in previous articles, zero nitric oxide = zero erection.
But, L Arginine is not a miracle solution for erectile dysfunction. If your arteries and veins are already clogged up due to high cholesterol over a number of years the endothelium will have difficulties in releasing the necessary nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes and no or much lower and reduced conversion of L Arginine to Nitric Oxide will occur.
Suggestion: Take Ginkgo Biloba over a prolonged period of time with L Arginine to help clear and clean up your veins and arteries of the gunk that is blocking them and inhibiting the conversion of L Arginine to Nitric Oxide process.
Other Health Benefits Of L Arginine
L Arginine is great for your overall cardio health and very good for liver and kidney health as it performs a fabulous detox process and assists in eliminating waste and toxic Ammonia from the body. It is also good for reducing the toxic effects of alcohol.
And that should come as a very welcome treat as both the kidney and liver perform vital functions in the body that include cleansing our blood out of toxic substances we either knowingly put in or unwillingly (air pollution).
L Arginine also helps in strengthening the immune system by assisting in fighting bacteria, lowering high blood pressure and improving sleep quality. This is good news for sufferers of erectile dysfunction as both hypertension and insomnia are known causes of erectile dysfunction.
How Much Should We Take?
Firstly that really depends on the severity of your erectile dysfunction and, naturally speaking consultation with your family Doctor. It can interact with other medications that you may be taking, in particular, medication for high blood pressure.
It is not recommended to take in conjunction with Viagra, Cialis, Levitra or other medication for erectile dysfunction.
The dosage, for use in improving your erectile function, is 6 grams daily, taken evenly throughout the day, 2 grams in the morning, 2 grams in the afternoon and 2 grams at night. It is best taken with food.
Side Effects
There are no known side effects of taking L Arginine, but taking it in high doses in excess of 9 grams can result in an upset stomach and diarrhoea.
Where To Buy L Arginine
L Arginine can be found in food sources like fish, garlic, raw cacao, nuts and poultry like chicken and turkey. It can also be found in watermelon. Although food is a source of this “almost essential” amino acid it is very and indeed highly unlikely that you will get enough to have a sufficient effect on your “pocket rocket”
My suggestion is to supplement your diet with an L Arginine product to ensure that you get the 6 gram suggested daily dosage.
